What is GRP and what is it used for?
GRP(Glass Reinforced Plastic) is a composite material, consisting of a plastic or resin matrix reinforced with glass fibers. It is a light, rigid and resistant material that offers a good response to corrosion and wear. It is also useful as an insulator, either acoustic or electrical. The truth is that its properties vary depending on the amount of fiber it contains.
Among other uses, it is used in the automotive and aeronautical industries, as well as in structural elements of construction and in water tanks.
The use of steel
Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. The latter preserves the metallic characteristics of iron but improves its physical and chemical properties. To be considered steel, the alloy of iron and carbon must be less than 1.7%. It is a hard yet elastic material that is malleable to create different types of products.
Steel as a material has very good mechanical properties as it is very strong and also inexpensive. On the other hand, it is also possible to alloy steel with other materials such as chromium, magnesium, tungsten, zinc, etc. to improve its properties.
Stainless steel is an excellent material for its resistance to corrosion and oxidation, mainly due to the presence of chromium, which allows the formation of a thin film that is impermeable and resistant to corrosives. In addition, stainless steel is easy to clean, which makes it hygienic. It has a very low maintenance cost, resists well to both high temperatures and temperature variation and is a recyclable material, thus contributing to the care of the planet.
